Error Page
An Error page is a web page that lists an error message (such as a HTTP 404 message). Commonly, Error pages pop up when web pages have been moved or deleted from a website, when someone clicks on a broken or outdated link, tries to visit a website when the server is down, or types in a URL incorrectly.
The standard Error Page is a generic-looking, white, 404 Not Found error page generated by your web server. Error Page can also be customized, however, which helps websites keep traffic and boosts SEO rankings.
Most Web Servers allow you to create Custom Error Pages. They are most effective if they're designed in the same style and look as the rest of your website, so if someone accidentally navigates to the error page from your site they won't visually notice the difference. Most will just look at the site map you provide, click where they think the need to go, and re-enter your site.
Custom Error Pages also help with Search Engine Optimization. The links and site map you display on your Custom Error Page will be crawled through by search engine spiders, pointing back to your home page.
