Java Applets

Java Applets are small interactive applications on web pages that are written in Java Programming Language. Java Applets are usually interactive elements that you can't create with HTML alone. Java Applets are included on the actual HTML document of a particular web, in a similar fashion to the way you include a picture or logo on the page.

Java applets are programs that run on the Internet user's computer, and not on the web browser. Because Java Applets are not opened or operated by search engines, search engines cannot "see" text or images inside a Java Applet. So, while Java Applets make web pages more interesting, educational, and interactive, they will not directly increase your website's ranking in search engine results.

Java Applets can be run on any platform, including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and Unix. These mini programs usually are designed to do a specific task, such as a car loan calculator, checking a hotel's room availability during within a certain time period, creating random dot patterns for a background on a webpage, creating a photo album with scrolling photos, or making a 3D image rotate.

Java applets are usually written in Java and can run in whatever web browser you're using. Java is different from JavaScript, which runs much slower than Java. Some run automatically on any computer when you navigate to a given webpage, while others require computers to have a Java Plug-in installed prior to running the Applet.

Java Applets can also be written in languages other than Java, such as Java-compatible languages such as Eiffel or Jython.
